House of Earth and Blood
This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I really enjoyed the ACOTAR series so I was very excited to start this book. When I saw it on borrowbox I just had to borrow it from my library.
The narrator was excellent. I've listened to a few audiobooks with Elizabeth as the narrator. I always find her engaging and suspenseful. The narrator is so important to an audiobook and Elizabeth is definitely on my favourites list.
I enjoyed the story a lot but if you have read ACOTAR you will start to wonder if the two books are in the same universe. They aren't but some parts seem extremely familiar. That for me was irritating. If they aren't meant to be in the same universe then they should have been very different.
This book was also HUGE. I think it could have been shorter. there was a lot of parts that were drawn out. SJM's writing is easy to read and comforting. There was a lot of world-building in this book. As it's the first in the series, this is expected.
I loved the variety of different mythical 'creatures' in this book. I love the fantasy element of the book. I find these sorts of things fascinating.
This book had a big emphasis on friendship which I loved. Bryce and Danica would do ANYTHING for each other and that is very special. Bryce is a strong female character which I liked. She isn't this little damsel in distress.
This was the good start to a new series and I'm excited to see where it goes.
