A Vow So Bold and Deadly
This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I'm going to start by saying this review will most likely contain spoilers for the first 2 books. If you haven't read them I would suggest doing so and then coming back. I LOVED the first two books in this series. Book one blew me away and gave me such a love for this series but this book just left me feeling a bit flat. It's the shortest of the 3 books and the pages weren't even used to their best.
At the end of book 2, we knew war was coming but the first half of this book is preparing for said war. I understand that the author was trying to show us there is more to war than just the battle but did we need 200 pages to tell us this, IMO no we did not. This really slowed down the pace of the book. I was stuck for ages at the beginning of the book because it was a bit boggy to read. Once you are through this the second half of the book is a joy to read.
I know some people are team Grey or team Rhen but I do truly love both characters. Grey has always been loyal to Rhen but he can't stand by and let Rhen destroy Emberfall. I also love Harper. Harper is a much stronger character for me than Lia Mara. There were many times that I wanted to tell Lia Mara to stand up for herself. To tell people I am in charge now and you listen to me, not to my sister. Harper has always fought for what she believes in.
I listened to an interview with Brigid before I read this book and she said that the characters all get what they deserve and in a way, I guess she is right. They do get what they deserve, some actually get more than they deserve (not in a mean way). This book left SO MUCH unresolved. It doesn't read like the ending and while I know Brigid is planning another book/spin-off this book was sold as the end and quite obvious it is not.
