Feeney writes alternating timelines like a weapon — the "then" chapters from their anniversary letters and the "now" chapters in the creepy chapel create this mounting dread that something is deeply wrong. The face blindness angle is genius because it makes you question everything the narrator perceives. The final reveal reframes the entire book and I immediately wanted to reread it. Not quite as sharp as The Housemaid's twist but close.
