After hearing so many people rave about Emily Henry I finally picked this up and they were right. January and Gus are both stuck writers who challenge each other to swap genres for the summer — she writes literary fiction, he writes romance. The meta-commentary on genre snobbery is sharp and the romance is perfectly paced. That beach bonfire scene? Cinema. The way it handles grief underneath all the banter gives it real emotional weight.
