At this point I am completely attached to this series. 😂🐉 I loved being back with Violet, Xaden, Tairn and Andarna, and after the ending of Iron Flame I desperately needed to know what was going to happen.

I loved how much bigger everything felt in this book. There was more exploring, more of the world outside of what we’d already seen, more dragons and so many new questions about what is actually going on. I especially loved learning more about Andarna because she has become one of my favourite characters in the entire series.

Violet and Xaden once again had me completely invested. Their relationship has changed so much since Fourth Wing, and I love that underneath all the fantasy, dragons and chaos, there is still this incredibly strong connection between them.

There were a few points where the amount of information, travelling and world-building slowed things down for me slightly, which is really the only reason this didn’t quite reach Iron Flame level. I’m much more interested in the characters and what is happening to them than huge amounts of fantasy lore.

But when this book was good, I was completely hooked. And once again Rebecca Yarros apparently decided that finishing a book normally would be far too kind. 😭

4.5 stars. Still obsessed with the series, still emotionally attached to fictional dragons, and still apparently incapable of having a peaceful time reading these books.
