I loved Fourth Wing, but somehow Iron Flame managed to make me even more obsessed with this series.

I was already attached to Violet, Xaden, Tairn and Andarna going into this, so this time I could just completely lose myself in the story. The stakes felt higher, the world felt bigger and there was so much more happening beyond Basgiath.

I loved seeing Violet become stronger without losing what made me like her in the first place. She still relies on her intelligence rather than suddenly becoming invincible, and watching her learn more about her power, the dragons and everything she’d been lied to about kept me hooked.

Tairn and Andarna were once again some of my absolute favourite characters. 😂🐉 I love that the dragons aren’t just there to be ridden. They have their own personalities, secrets, relationships and opinions, and the mental conversations between them and Violet are still one of my favourite parts of the series.

Violet and Xaden also had me STRESSED. 😭 Their relationship became so much more complicated in this book, and although there were moments where I wanted them to just TALK TO EACH OTHER, I was completely invested in them.

And then that ending???

EXCUSE ME?!

I genuinely don’t know how I was supposed to casually close the book and carry on with my life after that. 😂

Iron Flame took everything I enjoyed about Fourth Wing and made me even more emotionally invested in the characters and the world. Easy 5 stars.
