I genuinely wish I could wipe my memory just so I could experience this book for the first time again. Hunting Adeline completely broke me, and to this day it is my all-time favourite book.
It was so much darker than Haunting Adeline, and there were parts that were genuinely difficult to read, but I could not put it down. I felt so emotionally attached to Adeline that everything she went through hit me incredibly hard. This was actually the first book that ever made me cry, and the moment Zade finally found her absolutely destroyed me. After everything she’d survived, seeing her finally reach him and completely break down had me gone.
But what I loved most was that finding her wasn’t suddenly the end of her trauma. The book actually showed the aftermath. Adeline wasn’t magically okay because Zade was there. She had to learn how to feel safe again, how to live with what had happened to her and how to navigate their relationship when intimacy and trust had been completely changed by her experiences.
And I absolutely loved Zade through that part of the story. He was still obsessive, dominant and completely unhinged, but there was so much more care and patience underneath it. Watching their relationship become deeper than the obsession from the first book made me love them even more.
This book made me uncomfortable, angry, heartbroken, relieved and completely obsessed. I was glued to it from beginning to end, and when it was over I genuinely didn’t want to leave these characters.
Nothing has beaten it for me since. My absolute favourite.
