How to set up

Install the plugin on your e-reader

  1. Download bookstreak.koplugin.zip from the GitHub releases page
  2. Connect your e-reader to your computer via USB
  3. Unzip and copy the bookstreak.koplugin folder to your KOReader plugins directory:

  1. Eject your e-reader and restart KOReader
  2. Verify: open the hamburger menu → More Tools → you should see "BookStreak Sync"

Connect to your BookStreak account

  1. In BookStreak on your phone, go to Settings → KOReader Sync
  2. Tap "Get Setup Code" — a 6-character code appears with a 10-minute timer
  3. On your e-reader: hamburger menu → More Tools → BookStreak Sync → "Setup with code"
  4. Enter the code and tap "Connect"
Code expired? Tap "Generate New Code" in BookStreak to get a fresh one. Codes last 10 minutes.

Sync your reading data

  1. In the plugin menu, tap "Sync now" for your first sync
  2. The plugin reads your KOReader statistics and sends your full reading history to BookStreak
  3. Open BookStreak — your books, sessions, and highlights appear

After the first sync, the plugin works automatically:

  • Close a book — that book's sessions sync immediately
  • Open a book — syncs all books and flushes queued data
  • WiFi reconnects — anything queued offline sends automatically

Frequently asked questions

What devices are supported?
Any device running KOReader — Kobo, Kindle (jailbroken), PocketBook, reMarkable, Android tablets, and desktop Linux.
What happens if my e-reader is offline?
The plugin queues your reading data locally. When WiFi reconnects, everything syncs automatically. No data is lost.
Will this affect my existing KOSync setup?
No. The BookStreak plugin is separate from KOSync. Your existing sync with sync.koreader.rocks continues working. You can use both side by side.
Is my reading data uploaded anywhere?
Your data travels directly from your e-reader to your encrypted BookStreak account over HTTPS. No telemetry, no third-party services.
How much data does the first sync send?
The plugin reads your full KOReader statistics database. If you have 100+ books, the first sync may take 30–60 seconds. After that, only new sessions sync — it's near-instant.
Can I uninstall the plugin later?
Yes. Delete the bookstreak.koplugin folder from your device. Your reading data already synced to BookStreak stays there. Nothing on your e-reader is modified.
