Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dramma: 💧💧
Sugar: 🧁🧁🧁
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
Tropes and vibes: dark romance - romantic suspense - kink exploration - forced proximity - only one bed - he falls first and harder - a little bit of stalking
I want to thank Allie Oleander, Random House and NetGalley for this eARC.Here, my honest opinion.
As Josh Hammond once said “The couple who slays together, stays together”.“Prey for me” is for those who loved books such as “Butcher & Blackbird”, “Lights Out”or Harmony West’s “Sweet Obsession”, where romance and suspense are well balanced,. As expected in a book categorized as erotica, we have kink exploration that includes fear play, mask play, primal play, consensual non-consent, submissive and dominant roles, knife play, praise, edging, degradation, bondage, impact play: the more, the merrier! However, even if the spice is chef’s kiss, it doesn’t overshadow the plot. In other words, it’s not just smut. The thriller subplot is quite predictable, but still enjoyable. The MMC is just a golden retriever who is into kink. He can play the Big Bad Wolf, but he is a green flag; at any rate, he doesn’t mind taking care of trash in a very final way. He can be dark and caring, funny and menacing. The FMC is someone who escape an abusive marriage and have learnt to express what she want; she is still managing letting people in, and her healing journey does not appeal contrived.I appreciated that they are both mid-thirty, because we need more mature MC with a background.Wrapping up: are you in smutty slasher? That’s the book for you.
